Zion National Park
Reported: Sept. 2013
Utah's National Parks wow'ed us and filled our Florida eyes with almost more views than we could process. Zion National Park was one of our favorites, partly because of the park road biking option. This scenic ride is absolutely stunning. Shuttles carry you and your bike to the top, then you bike down - our style. There also are many popular mountain trails, but that's not our forte so we didn't visit those. Springdale is the kick-off point with many hotels, restaurants and shops. With its stunning mountain backdrop, we can understand why it often ranks high on "prettiest town" lists. (Detailed map and photos below.)
Location: Springdale, UT (See map)
Distance: 6 miles on the park road plus 1.8 miles Pa'rus Trail
Surface: Paved
Bike Shops/Rentals:

Zion Canyon Shuttle System
Cars aren't allowed on the park road/scenic drive when shuttles are running (March-Nov.), so we rode the shuttle from Springdale to the Park, took the park shuttle to the top, and then biked down the park road. The scenery was outstanding, hard to keep your eyes on the road! Due to traffic restrictions, you won't encounter many vehicles, but do pull over and stop for the shuttle buses.
The paved Pa'rus Trail runs along the Virgin River from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center to Canyon Junction (where the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway meets the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive).
